Norwegian culture, school and kindergarden

In this presentation, we will provide an overview of Norwegian culture, as well as how kindergarten and school work in Norway. Understanding Norwegian values and systems is important for both adapting and thriving in the workplace and society.

Norway is known for its open and inclusive culture. Values such as equality, democracy, and respect for nature are highly regarded. People in Norway value time with family, leisure, and a balanced life. Professionalism and service on the workplace are important, while also leaving room for a casual, open dialogue with colleagues.

Norwegians are also strongly committed to sustainability, gender equality, and fairness. Respect for others' opinions and time is something Norwegians deeply appreciate. This is reflected in the workplace, where being punctual, cooperative, and clear in communication are key.

In Norway, most children start kindergarten when they are about one year old, and it plays an important role in the child’s development. The kindergarten emphasizes play and learning in a safe and inclusive environment. Here, children develop social skills, language abilities, and creativity. It’s not just a place for childcare, but an important arena for early development.

Kindergartens in Norway are publicly funded and have a strong focus on inclusion, diversity, and equality. The staff are qualified, and there is a clear framework for ensuring that kindergartens provide a safe and stimulating environment.

School in Norway is free and mandatory for all children from the age of 6 to 16. The education system is divided into three levels: primary school (1st to 10th grade), secondary school, and higher education. Norwegian schools emphasize a holistic approach to learning, where students develop both academic and personal skills.

Teachers and students have an open and informal relationship, and the focus is on collaboration and critical thinking. Norwegian schools encourage students' independence and responsibility, and it’s important to be able to express one’s thoughts and opinions. Additionally, Norwegian schools place a strong focus on including students from diverse backgrounds, skills, and needs.

Norwegian culture is characterized by equality, respect, and inclusion, values which are also reflected in the kindergarten and school systems. When adapting to the Norwegian work culture, it is important to understand and respect these values. This will help you thrive both at work and in society. Good luck with your new life and career in Norway!
